    Opportunity: Staff Scientist for Bioinformatics Core Facility at BRIC @ University of Copenhagen -- Demark

    BACKGROUND

    A full-time position as bioinformatician in our bioinformatics core-facility is available at the Biotech Research and Innovation Centre (BRIC), University of Copenhagen. The position is available for 3 years with the possibility of extension.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As part of the Bioinformatics Core, the Staff scientist is responsible for conducting bioinformatics in support of the research projects of the 24 research groups located at BRIC, KU. The Staff scientist will be expected to take part in a wide range of different scientific projects, and to work in a structured fashion.

    REQUIREMENTS

    We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a PhD in bioinformatics or equal qualifications. The successful candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of the analysis of high-throughput data (such as next-generation sequencing data) and large data sets in general. Experience with ChIPseq and RNAseq data is particularly important, while knowledge of Microarray analysis will be considered an asset.

    The ideal candidate will be an experienced UNIX/LINUX-user and must have knowledge of at least one scripting language (e.g. Perl, Python or equiv.) and should be familiar with the R programming language. System administration experience is preferable, as is knowledge of the Galaxy web-based platform, but neither are requirements.

    The candidate is expected to have excellent English skills, both written and spoken, and to be highly engaged and like collaborations, in particular with wet-lab scientists.

    TERMS

    Terms of salary and employment:
    Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Depending on qualifications, a higher salary may be negotiated. The position is defined as academic staff (`akademisk medarbejder/AC-TAP') the position will be available as soon as possible.

    LOCALE

    Place of employment:
    The employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. BRIC is located in the Biocenter, close to the centre of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international environment. Our facilities include modern laboratories and a number of core facilities shared between the 24 research groups at BRIC and the neighboring Finsen Laboratory.
