    Opportunity: Clinical Computational Scientist @ The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine -- Farmington, CT (US)

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, based in Farmington, CT is seeking a Clinical Computational Scientist to design, develop, implement and oversee deliverables for all clinical and research data analytics pipelines for the Clinical Genomics and Genetic Services business unit. This role partners closely with the clinical lab director and business development team to establish and maintain credibility for JAX in the clinical analytics space through method development and publications. In addition, this position will interface with customers or potential collaborators as a subject matter expert and project coordinator.

    Responsibilities:
    • This role is responsible for the efficient and quality execution of processing data through analytical pipelines of the clinical genomics and genetic services business unit. This includes ownership of executing data analysis of customer projects and developing and implementing process improvement for assay pipelines.
    • Oversee computer sciences team members who are performing analytic processes for customer data.
    • For clinical pipelines, partner with clinical laboratory director to evaluate, identify and address gaps in critical procedures and processes on an on-going basis.
    • For all other service pipelines, partner with business unit management to develop and execute pipeline launch plans.
    • Prioritize new functionality of pipelines by partnering with the clinical lab director, manager of analytics and curation and business unit management, based on business unit goals, feedback from customers, attendance at scientific meetings, and relationships with key scientific experts.
    • Educate, train, and manage the workflow of the clinical analytical pipeline to clinical genomics and relevant computational sciences staff.
    • Research, evaluate, design, and implement new and emerging analytical processes and tools to improve current clinical offerings and to support new clinical offerings. This will involve working closely and coordinating with regulatory, computational sciences, IT, and management groups.
    • Provide technical leadership on development and implementation of new assays, which could include design and development of databases and algorithms for processing and analyzing genomic information.
    • Engage in dissemination of knowledge through publications, presentations at scientific meetings, meetings with external partners and internal seminars and workshops.
    • Partner with the manager, analytics and curation for on-going review of clinical genomics data sets generated by execution of assays to look for novel findings for further investigation or publishing.
    • Provide excellent communication and consult to effectively articulate technical information to customers. This may include developing PowerPoint presentations, marketing collateral, or participating in potential customer visits.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A PhD level degree in bioinformatics, genetics, genomics, cellular biology, molecular biology or an equivalent is required, plus five years related experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of targeted therapies, next-generation sequencing technology, genomics, molecular diagnostics, pharmacology, and cancer biology
    • Must have well developed interpersonal, organizational and facilitation skills and be confident approaching, motivating and communicating with colleagues at all levels of The Jackson Laboratory organization and external customers.
    • Proficiency in multiple languages including but not limited to Python, Perl, R and Java
    • Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools, including next-generation sequencing analysis tools and genomic databases
    • Experience with parallel computing, batch programming and version control systems
