Opportunity: Machine Learning & Systems Biology Postdoc Fellowship @ Case Western Reserve University -- Cleveland, OH (US)
Submitted by Vinay Varadan; posted on Friday, October 23, 2015
|
BACKGROUND
This multi-year research fellowship is an opportunity to become a part of a precision medicine research program that includes basic research and clinical science at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCCC). This unique opportunity will allow you to directly impact the development of precision medicine strategies through close collaborations with a multi-investigator team of basic and translational researchers in addition to industry partners. As a key member of this academic-industrial partnership, you will be mentored to pursue subsequent career paths in either academia or industry.
REQUIREMENTS
This Fellowship is targeted to PhD level researchers in biomedical engineering/computer science/electrical engineering with strong interests in machine learning and bioinformatics. A strong background in one or more areas of machine learning (structured learning, neural networks, compressed sensing or dimensionality reduction) is desired. Any experience in computational biology, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis and/or systems biology would be advantageous but not necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be a member of the Translational Systems Biology Lab at CCCC led by Dr. Vinay Varadan, and will focus on the development and application of advanced machine learning approaches to delineate mechanisms underlying cancer progression and discover novel biomarkers of therapy response using data from cutting-edge clinical trials being conducted at CCCC. Opportunities exist to drive several ongoing projects, including:
i) Integrative analysis of molecular profiling and clinical imaging data to discovery biomarkers of therapy response
ii) Delineating functional diversity and evolution of tumor cell populations using single-cell sequencing
iii) Systems-level analysis of genome-scale genetic screens to decipher driver mechanisms
iv) Robust detection of genomic and transcriptomic aberrations in archival tumor specimens
COMPENSATION
Salary is competitive and will be accompanied by the excellent benefits and resources of Case Western Reserve University.
