DESCRIPTION
Are you interested in establishing and managing a state-of-the-art HPC facility to enable cutting-edge research? This is an unusual opportunity to develop your experience and skills as part of a friendly team supporting research staff and students at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology (KIR).
The KIR is a world-class research centre that has recently relocated to brand-new premises next to the Welcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford. It has now invested in a high-specification HPC facility (>20 TFLOPs) to support research increasingly reliant on computational genomics and big-data analysis.
As the KIR HPC Systems Administrator you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the new HPC facility and supporting its users. Working with the Research Informatics team you will also help maintain existing IT platforms and provide occasional desktop support.
To succeed in this role you will need strong experience and excellent understanding of Linux Systems Administration. An enthusiastic team player, you value quality of service, have an eye for detail and respond positively to new challenges.
If appointed you will build relationships with the Medical Sciences Division IT Services Team and the University's Advanced Research Computing Team. The University is committed to supporting and developing its staff - our department is a recipient of the Athena Swan Silver Award.TERMS
This is a longer-term opportunity initially funded on a 2 year fixed-term contract. Post renewal is dependent on the continuation of project funding. We anticipate the KIR's HPC requirements will grow and that this post will continue for a significant period of time.LOCALE
