    Opportunity: Biostatistics Specialist @ Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation -- Ardmore, OK (US)

    BACKGROUND

    The Administrative Division of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc., Ardmore, Oklahoma, is seeking a Biostatistics Specialist. The Biostatistics Specialist reports to Dr. Perdeep Mehta, Bioinformatics and Research Support Manager, within the Computing Services Department.

    A portion of this Biostatistics Specialist position is part of an internal research initiative. The Noble Foundation's Forage365 research initiative aims to provide a sustainable, year-round grazing system.

    The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation is an independent, nonprofit institute headquartered in Ardmore, Okla. Founded in 1945, the Noble Foundation conducts direct operations, including assisting farmers and ranchers, and conducting plant science research and agricultural programs, to enhance agricultural productivity regionally, nationally and internationally.

    The Noble Foundation,
    • Is the largest private foundation in Oklahoma and is in the top 44 in the United States (based on asset size).
    • Employs more than 350 individuals, including more than 90 Ph.D. scientists, agricultural consultants and research associates.
    • Houses 21 primary research laboratories focused on plant research.
    • Operates a 500,000-square-foot central campus having research, program, infrastructure and administrative space.
    • Receives extramural, research support from the National Science Foundation; U.S. Department of Agriculture/National Institute of Food and Agriculture; Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology; U.S. Department of Energy; National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (National Institutes of Health); the State of Oklahoma (Consortium for Legume Research and Oklahoma Bioenergy Center); and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Biostatistics Specialist will be responsible for providing assistance on experimental design and statistical and data analysis, training on available tools, software, and research methods, and collaborating on scientific presentations and journal articles.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should have a masters degree in biostatistics, statistics, quantitative science, mathematics, or related field and 2 years full-time experience; a PhD and no experience will also be considered.

    PREFERENCES

    Experience must be in a range of professional statistics such as sampling, survey and experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, statistical programming using SAS, R or similar, and application of statistical techniques to agriculture, natural resources and real life systems required; experience with statistical software such as R, SAS or MATLAB is also required; experience with bioinformatics data analysis is preferred but training will be provided if needed.

    Other beneficial skills are the ability to solve problems independently and manage multiple projects concurrently, familiarity with types of experimental designs, completely randomized design, randomized block design, split plot design, lattice design, Latin squares design, etc. and scientific writing and the ability to write effectively, as well as a general working knowledge of agriculture, plant biology, natural resources, genetics, and related fields, and quantitative genetics and any field related experiment where factors cannot be controlled, but must be accounted for.
