    BACKGROUND

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The EMBL Grenoble Outstation is looking for a Software Developer to expand the capabilities of the CRIMS and ISPyB Laboratory Information Management Systems to support the operation of automated macromolecular crystallography pipelines. These pipelines will comprise crystallization, automated crystal mounting and X-ray data collection within integrated workflows and will be applied to large scale ligand screening projects on targets of biomedical relevance. The Crystallization Information Management system CRIMS is a web-based data management system designed to support activities associated with automated, high throughput crystallization screening of biological molecules and is in operation at several laboratories in Europe. The Information System for Protein crystallography Beamlines (IYSPyB) tracks X-ray diffraction experiments and is used in several European synchrotrons.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will work in close collaboration within the CRIMS and ISPyB development teams at EMBL and ESRF. He/she will be responsible for the technical specification, design and development of new functionalities and user interfaces, including the development of specific modules to support ligand screening. The candidate will also contribute to statistical data analysis and provide support for installation and operation of the software at other sites.

    REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a motivated person with at least 2 years professional experience and a desire to work in an international research environment. Applicants should have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience. A background in bio-computing or structural biology software development will be highly appreciated. Candidates should have demonstrable experience with object orientated PHP, HTML, JQuery/AngularJS and relational databases. Experience with frameworks, testing and behavior driven development as well as basic skills in system administration (Linux) and networking will be highly appreciated. The ability to work within a team and communicate with users is essential. Fluency in English is mandatory.
