RESPONSIBILITIES
Areas of Interest: Statistics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology
Dr. Yuan Ji's lab at NorthShore University HealthSystem and University of Chicago is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow to conduct bioinformatics and computational biology research as part of a new Program for Computational Genomics and Medicine. Ji's lab specializes in developing statistical and computational methods, tools, and databases for cancer research. Key research topics include cancer genetic interaction study (see http://www.compgenome.org/zodiac), tumor heterogeneity analysis (see http://www.compgenome.org/lochap/ and http://www.compgenome.org/bayclone2/), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data processing and analysis (see http://www.compgenome.org/TCGA-Assembler/), and radiogenomics. See http://www.compgenome.org for more information about research projects. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to work on some of these cutting-edge research projects. The main responsibilities include developing computational methods, carrying out analyses (some on supercomputer), writing manuscripts, and managing genomic data.REQUIREMENTS
- PhD degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, molecular biology, statistics, electrical engineering, computer science or other related fields. This position requires background and expertise in computation and biology.
- Hands-on experiences in the analysis of omics data, such as DNA and RNA sequencing data, microarray data, or proteomics data.
- Proficiency in programming with one or multiple of R, Matlab, Perl, shell script, C/C++, and Python.
- Familiar with popular bioinformatics and statistics analyses, such as differential gene selection, gene set enrichment analysis, ANOVA, and survival analysis.
PREFERENCES
- Experiences of cancer research, genetic interaction network study, biomarker detection, or drug target identification.
- Capable of communicating with bench scientists about biological questions and transforming them into computational tasks.
- Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience of using bioinformatics tools, such as (1) Next Generation Sequencing pipeline tools, (2) MEME Suite for motif analysis, and (3) Bioconductor packages.
- Experience of using bioinformatics resources, such as TCGA, ENCODE, UCSC Genome Browser, KEGG, TRANSFAC, miRBase, Gene Ontology, and GEO.
- Experience on high performance computing, database management and web construction.
ABOUT US
NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) is a not-for-profit organization principally formed to provide quality healthcare services. NorthShore includes four Hospitals (Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Skokie Hospital), the NorthShore Research Institute, the NorthShore Foundation, and the NorthShore Medical Group. The system has more than 2,000 physicians forming the largest medical group in metropolitan Chicago. NorthShore is highly rated nationally in the U.S. News & World Report's Annual Best Hospitals Ranking and the Leapfrog Top Hospitals Ranking. NorthShore has a teaching affiliation with the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. NorthShore researchers will get affiliated positions in Pritzker School of Medicine. Ji's lab hosts the Program for Computational Genomics and Medicine in the NorthShore Research Institute and is also affiliated with the Department of Public Health Sciences at The University of Chicago.LOCALE
