    RESPONSIBILITIES

    University of Iowa Department of Pathology is seeking a full time Assistant Research Scientist/Engineer in the Molecular Pathology Bioinformatics area.

    Responsibilities includes: develop, provide informatics support, and take a lead role in data analysis, method development, software evaluation, and training in order to advance the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) biomedical program in the Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A Ph.D. degree in a Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or Biostatistics discipline is required.
    • 1-3 years of experience with programming languages such as Perl, Python or Java is required.
    • Working knowledge in performing statistical analyses is required as is experience in the R statistical language
    • Prior experience in the analysis of next generation DNA sequencing, microarray, comparative genomics, SNP and data analyses is required.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment is required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

    PREFERENCES

    • 3-5 years of experience with computing clusters and Linux operating systems is highly desired.
    • 3-5 years of experience with programming languages such as Perl, Python or Java is highly desired.
    • 3-5 years of performing analysis in R statistical programming is highly desired.
    • Prior experience successfully securing external grant funding is highly desirable.

    COMPENSATION

    Compensation begins at $47,121 annually, however will be commensurate with education and experience.
