BACKGROUND

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain existing bioinformatics software packages
• Develop and implement bioinformatics software to support the needs of all business lines and to enhance the company's bioinformatics platform
• Analyze bioinformatics data and provide reports based on clients' requirements
• Collaborate with fellow IT team members to provide technical and scientific bioinformatics support and to integrate bioinformatics software into our IT infrastructure
• Work with other departments to understand business requirements, and implement bioinformatics solutions to efficiently address these requirements
• Learn new technologies in bioinformatics and genomics, and educate the team in order to maintain GENEWIZ's leading position in the industry

REQUIREMENTS

• M.S. in bioinformatics with 2-5+ years of experience required; Ph.D. with 1-3+ years of experience preferred; or equivalent years of experience
• Concrete experience in bioinformatics software and algorithm development
• Concrete experience in bioinformatics data analysis, including applying statistical approaches to interpret "omic" data
• Familiarity with various NGS platforms and key NGS protocols (e.g. DNA-Seq, RNA-Seq, metagenomics)
• Understanding of relevant biology and demonstrated initiative to keep up with evolving trends in bioinformatics, genomics and IT
• Knowledge of the software development life cycle and agile development practices, with emphasis on quality assurance
• Experience in system architecture, object-oriented software development and relational databases
• Proficiency developing software in Python, Perl, Java and R in a Linux environment
• Familiarity with cloud computing and Big Data technology is a plus, including AWS EC2/ELB/S3 and Hadoop
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic work environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills
