BACKGROUND
The Brown Center for Biomedical Informatics (BCBI) is seeking a tenure-track faculty member with primary research emphasis in translational bioinformatics. BCBI was established in 2015 as a transdisciplinary center with partnerships across the entire biomedical and health community of Brown University. This is a unique opportunity to be part of shaping the vision and long-term impact of a new biomedical informatics program at an institution with academic, hospital, and government partnerships that span basic research, health care, and public health.RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to support BCBI's three-fold mission, to: (1) innovate how electronic biomedical and health data are used, (2) implement solutions for improving biomedical research and healthcare delivery, and (3) inspire the next generation of biomedical researchers and clinicians in partnership with collaborators in existing areas of excellence at Brown, its healthcare affiliates, and statewide healthcare organizations. A competitive startup package will be provided, with the expectation that a majority of the faculty's research program will be supported through extramural funds within three years.REQUIREMENTS
Competitive applicants will have a PhD, DPhil, or DSc in biomedical informatics or related discipline (e.g., computer science, applied mathematics, or biostatistics) with appropriate experience in applications in biomedical or health contexts. Candidates with a doctoral-level health degree (e.g., MD, DO, DDS, DVM, DNSc, DrPH, or PharmD) and post-doctoral experience in biomedical informatics (including clinical informatics fellowships) or related discipline will also be considered favorably.PREFERENCES
Research experience in translational bioinformatics evidenced by peer-reviewed publications related to the following areas is of particular interest: EHR-linked biobanking, clinical phenotyping, large-scale genome-phenome analysis, disease nosology incorporating genomic information, evolutionary history of disease genes, genomic data driven clinical decision support, and drug discovery or repositioning. Other areas of translational bioinformatics may also be considered. Teaching experience at all collegiate and medical school levels (undergraduate, graduate, and medical students) is highly desirable.TERMS
