DESCRIPTION
Come Work at HJF!
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to support the research programs of Drs. Kathleen Pratt and David Scott in the Department of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), located in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to USUHS.
Three recently funded positions are available in the laboratories of Dr. Kathleen Pratt (https://www.usuhs.edu/content/kathleen-p-pratt-phd) and Dr. David Scott (https://www.usuhs.edu/content/david-w-scott-phd) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD. Motivated individuals with a recent PhD in immunology, bioinformatics, or a related field, or with an MD, are encouraged to apply. A passion to learn and apply transcriptomics and bioinformatics methods to profile immune responses (Pratt lab), and/or to study human and mouse engineered Tregs (Scott lab), are considered a strong plus. All 3 positions are funded for 3+ years and will be filled at the postdoctoral fellow or research associate level, depending on qualifications. The research projects will expand our collaborative and novel approaches to induce immune tolerance to a therapeutic protein drug, coagulation factor VIII. Techniques will include tissue culture, flow cytometry, ELISPOT/Fluorospot assays, TCR repertoire profiling, RNASeq and transcriptomics analysis, molecular biology (including CRISPr/Cas9) and protein chemistry. Our goal is to translate research results to improve clinical outcomes for patients.
USUHS is in Bethesda, MD, directly across the street from the NIH, and is thus part of an extraordinarily vibrant local biomedical research community. These research projects will take advantage of recently established Core facilities for Nextgen sequencing and Bioinformatics analysis. USUHS has a strongly collaborative environment, with weekly Immunology data club and journal club meetings, as well as regular research seminars featuring local and invited speakers.
Candidates should submit a CV plus names and contact information for 3 references. Preference will be given to applicants with evidence of scientific productivity through their publication record, and with strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
Note: Dr. Pratt will attend the American Association of Immunologists annual meeting May 13-17, 2016 in Seattle, WA, and will be available to interview candidates during the meeting. Please contact her through the AAI website or else directly, kathleen.pratt[at]usuhs.edu to arrange an interview.HOW TO APPLY
