BACKGROUND
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is having a major impact on cancer research today. And in the future, it will directly impact cancer patient care. We are looking for a NGS data processing expert to join our team. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, skilled and dedicated. Your work will likely lead to important new discoveries waiting for us in this unprecedented data, and the delivery of these results to our customers may impact cancer patient care in important and meaningful ways.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be part of a talented team of scientists and bioinformatics experts to help expand our computational infrastructure to process the growing number of NGS cancer samples available today.
- Design, prototype, test and implement data pipelines that execute best-practice NGS data processing techniques, with an emphasis on somatic gene panels and whole exome somatic data from Illumina and Thermo Fisher (LifeTech) sequencers.
- Collaborate with vendors to architect large-scale, local and/or cloud-based architectures capable of processing thousands of samples.
- Maintain and/or upgrade workflow involving batch processing of patient samples utilizing a scheduling/grid engine (SunUniva Grid Engine) implemented on our cluster.
- Actively engage our IT infrastructure team and LIS/LIMS team to support the development of quality control and validation strategies, leading to support the improvement of our processing pipelines and methods.
- Written and verbal presentation of scientific data results and methods.
REQUIREMENTS
- B.S. degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology or related discipline with 8+ years relevant experience
- M.S degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology or related discipline with 3 to 5 years relevant experience
- Ph.D degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology or related discipline with 2+ years relevant postdoc experience
- Proven understanding of Next Generation Sequencing technologies and data processing
- Strong computational skills, particularly in large-scale data management, parallel processing architectures and Linux system administration. Cloud-based computing is a plus.
- Previous bioinformatics and scientific programming experience necessary, including development and implementation of novel analytical algorithms to the processing of NGS data
- Proven record of efficiently utilizing standard Linux-based bioinformatics tools, scripting (Perl, Python, Bash, etc) statistical data processing and plotting (R) and web programming(LAMP or MEAN stack)
- Outstanding written and verbal skills
- Publications are highly valued.
