    BACKGROUND

    Applicants are invited for a Lead High Throughput Sequencing Bioinformatician with the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre's Genomic Medicine Theme. The Theme undertakes translational genomics research, in particular the clinical application of genomics technologies to rare diseases and cancer. You will be based Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford, but will work closely with clinical sequencing groups at the Oxford University Hospital's Molecular Diagnostics Centre.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    You will supervise a team of bioinformaticians and clinical scientists dedicated to analysis of next generation sequencing data (primarily whole genome sequence data). You will be responsible for developing the analysis pipelines and for designing and implementing novel analytical methods as appropriate, which may involve collaborations with research or commercial partners. There may also be opportunities for analysis and integration of multi-omics data and immune-oncology applications. You will supervise members of the clinical and research teams with responsibility for the corresponding analysis, ensuring best practice methods are used and training is provided where necessary and provide an integral link to co-ordinate the work of the research and clinical arms of the Genomic Medicine Theme's programme, as well as collaborating with clinicians.

    You will have the opportunity to conduct an independent research programme that fits with the strategic objectives of the Oxford BRC and takes advantage of the rich research environment at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, for which it is internationally renowned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    You should have a PhD in bioinformatics or statistical genetics with strong post-doctoral experience in applied DNA sequence analysis, and ideally have held a supervisory and/or developmental role in the past. You will need excellent programming skills in languages such as Perl, C/C++, R, Python, Java, SQL or similar. The ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively at all levels is essential. (Please see link below for further details.)

    A background in the analysis of next generation sequencing data is highly desirable.

    TERMS

    The position is full time, fixed-term for three years in the first instance and funded by the Oxford Biomedical Research Centre.
