DESCRIPTION
The Huttenhower lab in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard School of Public Health (http://huttenhower.sph.harvard.edu) is seeking to fill a position for a Postdoctoral Fellow.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for leading bioinformatics for the Inflammatory Arthritis Microbiome Consortium, a collaboration between HSPH, New York University, and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology at Oxford University. This will entail substantial travel to and from Oxford, UK, to manage microbiome data analysis for clinical and in vitro samples from arthritis patients and experiments across England. Samples to be analyzed over the three-year lifetime of the project include microbial metagenomics and metatranscriptomics, integration with gene expression data and immunoprofiling, and IgA-seq analysis. The Fellow will also work with clinical teams to carry out microbiome epidemiology and association studies with juvenile- and adult-onset arthritis phenotypes and contribute to microbiome bioinformatics training workshops.
The Huttenhower lab is broadly engaged in methods development for and multiple collaborative studies of the roles of the human microbiome in health and disease, with a focus on computational methods to characterize biomolecular functions within these microbial communities and their interactions with host immunity and genetics. The group works closely with the Broad Institute, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the broader Boston biomedical and life sciences communities, resulting in a rich environment for quantitative, computational, and laboratory collaborations. Funding for both positions is available for two years, contingent upon annual reviews, with an expectation of extension and expansion for subsequent years.REQUIREMENTS
Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Biology, or a related field; proficiency in one or more statistical or scripting languages appropriate for scalable data analysis (R and/or Python preferred); expertise in programming for biological data analysis; some familiarity with functional genetic and/or genomic data, as indicated by publication record; ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well.HOW TO APPLY
