    DESCRIPTION

    A position is available immediately for a Senior/Scientific Software Engineer – Test Automation at The Jackson Laboratory in Farmington, CT. This position reports to the Associate Director of Jackson's Computational Sciences Scientific Computing (CSSC) team. CSSC team is primarily responsible for developing software applications for scientific research programs. The position will be responsible for developing and executing software quality assurance programs for research and clinical applications and systems at the Jackson Laboratory.

    The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 3-7 years of experience and a BS or higher degree in computer science and/or significant related job experience; experience in natural sciences, biomedical field or bioinformatics is a plus. Responsibilities include designing, implementing and leading both comprehensive automated tests and manual testing where automation cannot be applied. The incumbent of this position will also lead in the effort to identify new testing technologies, frameworks and methodologies.

    This individual will function as part of a highly productive software team and will work closely with researchers across all three campuses and help to develop and test tools to aid them in their research. This individual should have a strong interest in leading-edge technologies, and finding ways to apply these technologies to assist in solving cutting-edge scientific problems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    The qualified candidate will have working knowledge of many of the following:
    • Platforms: Linux, Mac, Windows
    • Testing: Unittest, Doctest, py.test, xUnit, Spock
    • Web testing: Selenium/Webdriver, WebUnit
    • Languages: Python, Java, Groovy, Javascript
    • Web: jQuery, Bootstrap, Flask, reactive frameworks (ReactJS, VueJS, etc)
    • Other technology: Database/SQL, NoSQL, Git, JSON, build tools, Atlassian suite
    • Experience working in an agile development environment
    • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Knowledge in statistics, biology, genomics are considered a plus
