    Opportunity: Postdoctoral Associate -- Cancer Evolution @ The Jackson Laboratory -- Farmington, CT (US)

    BACKGROUND

    About The Position:
    Dr. Roel Verhaak's lab at The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine is currently seeking two recent graduates interested in investigating cancer and therapy resistance.

    We are looking for a molecular biologist experienced in cell culture and lentiviral transfection who will be investigating the evolution of individual glioblastoma (GBM) cells using single cell barcoding technology and comprehensively characterized GBM model systems. The goal of this study is to trace clonal evolution in GBM, to evaluate the genomic properties of dominant, therapy resistant clones relative to therapy sensitive cells and to compare findings in model systems with observations from clinical tumors. The ideal candidate has affinity for data analysis but experience with sequencing data (-analysis) is not a requirement.

    We are also looking for computational biologists or researchers from associated disciplines to strengthen our computational analysis group. We offer a wide range of projects, including studies of extrachromosomal DNA in the context of cancer evolution which involves long read sequencing analysis; DNA methylation and transcriptome single cells studies; nucleosome analysis; and longitudinal analysis of glioma patient samples.

    About the Verhaak Lab: Our group is highly interdisciplinary and provides a collaborative and fast-paced environment on the forefront of cancer genomics, in a scientific environment that will suit every ambition. Our laboratory has been involved with (and has led) several studies of The Cancer Genome Atlas (Verhaak et al, Cancer Cell 2010; Brennan/Verhaak et al, Cell 2013; Brat/Verhaak et al, N Eng J Med 2015; Cecarelli et al, Cell 2016; Zheng et al, Cancer Cell 2016). The Jackson Lab for Genomic Medicine is home to a large number of postdocs both at the bench and the command line, with several world class PIs.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in relevant field of study
    • Background in cancer research and/or computational biology required.
    • At least 2 first author publications in peer-reviewed journals (including submitted manuscripts) required.
    • Research experience in one or more of these areas highly preferred: tumor evolution, therapy resistance, brain tumors, single cell sequencing.
