BACKGROUND
A Physical Activity Genomics, Epigenomics/transcriptomics Site (PAGES) of the NIH Molecular Transducers of Physical Activity Consortium (MoTrPAC) https://commonfund.nih.gov/moleculartransducers/overview at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a highly motivated bioinformatics analyst to join a vibrant, interactive computational and experimental environment to provide bioinformatics support for the identification of molecular fingerprints of physical activity in humans and animal models. The successful candidate will possess a broad range of bioinformatics skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the development of large scale NGS centered data analysis pipelines, including bulk cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, methyl-seq and single cell analyses
- Create and support web applications and tools developed in the group, including the full cycle of development, deployment and maintenance
- Contribute to scientific manuscripts
REQUIREMENTS
A diverse set of skills is mandatory for this position, including all of the following:
- MS degree in computer science or related field with at least five years of directly related experience in bioinformatics and demonstrated solid knowledge in a broad spectrum of techniques in computer science
- To qualify, the candidate must have high level programming skills under the Linux environment.
- High proficiency and 3+ yrs of experience with Linux Bash programming
- High proficiency in programming and data visualization using R
- Experience with version control and high performance computing
PREFERENCES
- High level of competence with Web 2.0 technologies. In-depth understanding and experience with the Semantic Web and building REST web services. A track record of ability to create innovative and intuitive JavaScript/CSS interfaces
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases and MySQL in particular
