    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Large Molecule Research (LMR) in Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) is responsible for the discovery and the early technical development of innovative, antibody based, multispecific therapeutic proteins. As part of LMR, you will work as an IT and data management specialist in the department Mass Spectrometry (MS). In this function you are involved in the development of innovative and efficient solutions for high throughput sample data and MS data handling and integration in departmental and superordinate, interdisciplinary project data warehouses.

    This IT focused scientist position in the department Mass Spectrometry includes the following responsibilities:
    • Independent conception, development and implementation of smart IT solutions for sample information, data, and experimental result flows in automated, robotic sample preparation and coupled liquid chromatography-MS analysis workflows.
    • Development and implementation of IT concepts to efficiently integrate sample information and MS datasets into project databases and retrieve them again in a customized and user-oriented manner.
    • Contribution to and implementation of smart IT solutions for efficient integration and exchange of MS results within project teams and with other functional units in the LMR organization.
    • Integration of data handling solutions into the landscape of LMR data workflows.
    • Contribution to the optimization of fast, automated data processing procedures for tailored, efficient assessment of MS spectra.
    • Close collaboration in engaged teamwork with colleagues involved in wet-lab MS automation development, MS software development and to align IT concepts.
    • Collaborating in a matrix with automation technology groups and teams of data handling specialists from partner technical functions in LMR to develop and implement an elaborated LMR-wide data integration and data mining system.
    • Leading on demand department and/or LMR specific teams to develop and implement anticipated IT-systems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    For the position as IT Specialist Mass Spectrometry(m/f) you should show the following qualifications:
    • You hold a PhD in bioinformatics or informatics with a good understanding of biological processes and molecules. Alternatively you hold a PhD in biochemistry or chemistry with relevant experience in IT systems/bioinformatics.
    • You have demonstrated and documented relevant experience in academia, the biotechnology and/or the pharmaceutical industry.
    • We can trust in your knowledge and experience in the field of protein biochemistry or protein chemistry, ideally you are familiar with recombinant antibodies.
    • You are highly interested and experienced in IT topics related to solving data processing, result compilation and cross-functional data exchange.
    • You are well versed in automating experimental workflows and especially in the setup of correspondingly required efficient IT solutions for data evaluation, data handling and data mining.
    • Ideally, you have good knowledge in scientific programming using e.g. HTML, Javascript, Java, Python, Perl or related, respectively.
    • Additional knowledge and experience in the field of mass spectrometry (MS), esp. MS of proteins and peptides and H/UPLC based protein/peptide separation is a plus.
    • Your experience in building and working in high performing teams is highly appreciated.
    • Agility and open-mindedness are your key personality traits to work effectively in a team. Your highly structured and independent way of thinking and working helps you to make well considered proposals and decisions.
    • You assure in teams by collaboration-oriented and fact based argumentation.
    • You have outstanding communication skills and you are fluent in English (spoken and written); basic German skills would be appreciated.
