Opportunity: Core Lab Researcher -- New Services @ Oregon State University -- Corvallis, OR (US)

BACKGROUND
The Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing (CGRB) invites applications for a full-time (1.0FTE), 12-month, Core Lab Researcher- New Services Faculty Research Assistant position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Director.
The Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing (CGRB) at Oregon State University (OSU) collaborates with and assists life scientists of all levels in their research using cutting-edge genomics, informatics and computational techniques. An important component of the CGRB's activities is the molecular biology and genomics laboratory. We are an enthusiastic team of laboratory and computer scientists serving OSU and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will work closely with CGRB staff and the OSU research community to provide a high quality of service and promote the CGRB's mission of supporting genomics research. The appointee will be responsible for collaborating with researchers to plan, develop and conduct cutting edge procedures in genomics, molecular biology and protein chemistry. Appointee is required to collaborate in a collegial and inclusive fashion with CGRB staff and clients in the execution of all job functions.
The CGRB interacts with a wide variety of faculty, staff, and students representing a broad range of expertise, training and cultures. This position will support CGRB's and the university's mission of equity, inclusion and diversity by respecting, welcoming and supporting the diverse perspectives of our clientele and staff.
70% Conduct research and development of new cutting edge technologies suitable for molecular biology and DNA sequencing services. Includes cost analysis.
20% Plan and execute research with CGRB collaborators involving Sanger DNA sequencing, genotyping, DNA and RNA extraction, bioanalyzer analysis, high throughput sequencing, and protein analysis. Includes billing for services.
5% Analyze data from this research and prepare reports for clients; assist in preparation of publications.
5% Contribute to CGRB-organized training workshops and conferences. Promote the CGRB through outreach such as lab tours and attendance at conferences.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry or related field
- At least 2 years' experience working in a molecular biology research or service laboratory
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, independence, and high motivation
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
- Strong work habits and the ability to work independently as well as with a team
PREFERENCES
- M.S. or Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field
- Experience in a customer service position
- Experience conducting molecular biology services, including billing
- Experience in developing and evaluating new molecular biology protocols, including automation and cost analysis
- Experience in preparing Illumina high throughput sequencing libraries
- A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
