    BACKGROUND

    One of the country's leading Research Institutes has released an opportunity for a Senior Bioinformatician to develop a talented, multi-disciplinary informatics team. This outstanding research facility engages with leading academic and commercial partners all over the world, and is involved with renowned national programmes such as the 100K Genome Project and DDD (Deciphering Development Disorders) study.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Responsibilities will include:
    • Collaborating with Genomics England, performing expert analysis & interpretation of data generated from the 100K Genome Project, focussing on patients suffering with rare diseases and cancer
    • Supervising a growing team of a Bioinformaticians and Research Scientists
    • Developing and applying customer bioinformatics tools and pipelines
    • Integration of `omics data sets
    • Application of machine learning methods to explore patterns in complex genome sequencing datasets

    REQUIREMENTS

    This position is ideally suited to an experienced Bioinformatician with:
    • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Statistical Genetics, Computational Biology, Machine Learning or a related discipline
    • Strong Post-Doctoral background, with experience in the analysis, annotation and interpretation of human genome sequencing data
    • Experience working with rare disease data would be highly desirable (although not necessary)
    • Excellent programming ability, with expertise in one of the following languages: Perl, Python, Java, C++, R or similar
    • Prior experience supervising a team of bioinformaticians/scientists
    • Ability to develop novel bioinformatics tools, algorithms and pipelines
