Opportunity: Postdoc Bioinformatics @ UNC Charlotte -- Charlotte, NC (US)
Submitted by Lauren Slane; posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2018
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Rogers lab at UNC Charlotte is hiring a postdoc to work on evolutionary genetics of genome structure. The lab is interested in duplications, deletions, transposable elements and chromosomal rearrangements. We study the role these mutations play in creating new gene sequences, and the ways that selection acts on new genetic material. The postdoc will be expected to help analyze the lab's population genomic data for duplications, deletions, and rearrangements in Drosophila. Additional projects on genome structure evolution in other metazoans are encouraged, especially when public data or collaborations are available. The Rogers lab has no plans for any future work on frogs.
An overview of the lab can be found at evolscientist.com.
REQUIREMENTS
Some experience with bioinformatics and programming is essential. Knowledge of statistics and population genetics is recommended. Experience working with Illumina short read sequencing and long molecule sequencing will be advantageous. Postdocs must be less than 5 years post PhD.
TERMS
Target start date is between Aug 15 2018 and Jan 1 2019. Some flexibility exists, depending on circumstances.
LOCALE
