BACKROUND
Plant & Food Research conducts research that adds value to fruit, vegetable, crop and food products. Our science supports the sustainable production of high quality produce and novel functional foods that earn a premium in international markets and offers benefits to human health and wellbeing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Bioinformatics Team in our New Cultivar Innovation science portfolio, you'll contribute to the MBIE SSIF- funded research project, "Genomics Aotearoa" that focuses on developing new tools for high quality genome assemblies in the conservation and primary production sectors. You'll be leading high impact biometrics research activities to generate tools and data for the assembly and analysis of genome assemblies from blueberry and blue cod and other species of importance in primary production, pest control and conservation.
REQUIREMENTS
You will have a PhD in bioinformatics or computer science with advanced skills in programming and statistical computing, proficiency in GitHub and mark down. This will be combined with a proven ability to conduct research projects in a relevant area of study and well developed scientific writing and presentation skills. Broad knowledge of bioinformatics and expertise in Machine Learning would be desirable.
