    We are currently searching for an experienced, highly motivated Transcriptomics and Biostatistics Specialist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    The candidate will operate in a multi-disciplinary group of scientists who provide support, training, and consultation services to the NIH research community in the areas of bioinformatics and computational biosciences. The successful candidate for this position will be self-directed, highly collaborative and will provide leadership as a statistical expert. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with the research community and find the right solution for their diverse scientific computing needs. We are looking for individuals who can perform under time constraints and have great troubleshooting skills. Candidates must also have strong teaching and training abilities in both one-on-one and classroom environments.

    Work cooperatively with current computational biology specialists to:
    • Collaborate with NIAID scientists to design, analyze, manage, and interpret all types of biological data.
    • Provide statistical and bioinformatics consultation to NIAID scientists.
    • Design and deliver up-to-date training materials, courses, presentations, and workshops to effectively communicate, promote, and advance usage of computing statistical techniques by the NIAID research community.
    • Document collaborative and consultant assistance and training provided to NIAID researchers.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. (or M.S/M.A. with equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, or related field with at least 5+ years of experience in data analysis supporting an organization's researchers and principle investigators
    • Proficiency in a statistical programming and analysis tools: R, MATLAB, SAS or related software
    • Proficiency with desktop statistics software: SPSS, JMP, Minitab or related software
    • Ability to review reports and manuscripts from researchers to ensure that proper statistical methods were employed and correctly interpreted
    • Good understanding of genomics, molecular biology, and technologies such as PCR and next-generation sequencing
    • Familiarity with a high-performance parallel computing environment
    • Experience with sequencing data analysis (e.g. RNA-Seq) and understanding of microarray data
    • Experience providing direct user support and training to researchers
    • Strong interpersonal, presentation, written, and oral communication skills to convey biostatistics principles and concepts to non-specialists in a clear and precise manner and advise on relevant software and tools with a dedication to customer satisfaction
    • Attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a high level of personal and professional drive and initiative
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including the ability to learn new software quickly

    PREFERENCES

    Desired Skills:
    • Knowledge of proteomics and analysis of mass spectrometry data
    • Ability to develop independent research projects
    • Experience with high dimensional data visualization methods and software packages
    • Familiarity with algorithms and algorithm development for bioinformatics, including composing, editing, and compiling open-source code and use of version tracking software such as git
