Reports to: Daniel Navarro-Gomez, MBC Team Leader
MEEI Bioinformatics Center (MBC), Ocular Genomics Institute (OGI) and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) is seeking candidates to join their efforts to support the OGI Labs and Services. The current position seeks a programmer with database knowledge that wants to taste the Bioinformatics world to aid in the development and maintenance of the in-house tools supporting the MBC.
The candidate will work with the MBC and provide support to the senior staff and other lab members. This is a position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to perform as a team member.
This position offers the opportunity to learn about Medical Genetics and Bioinformatics as to learn about and apply MEAN stack application technologies.RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
1. Developing and maintaining web tools and interfaces
2. Developing and maintaining DataBases (SQL and NoSQL)
3. Developing and maintaining back-end systems
4. Creating pipeline-like tools for data analysis
5. Managing big datasets (Gigabytes to TB)
6. Work with patient related information and data.
7. Be responsible for full-development cycle: from user interactions and requirements gathering right through design, implementation, testing and support.REQUIREMENTS
Education and experience:
1. B.Sc. in computer science or a related
2. Experience with Unix/Linux systems
3. Strong programming skills with programming languages like: Python, Perl, PHP and Javascript. Javascript and web-front-end technologies a strong plus.
4. Data Base skills: SQL desired, NoSQL is a plus.
5. Experience working on High Performance Computing environments is a plus.
