    Opportunity: Bioinformatics Operations Manager @ Genomics England -- London, UK

    BACKGROUND

    Paramount are working in partnership with Genomics England to expand their team in order to deliver success as they move beyond the 100,000 Genomes Project. Genomics England will work with NHSE to launch the world's first Genomic Medicine Service within a national healthcare system. In partnership with government, the NHS, academia, industry and the public, Genomics England aims to realise the potential of genomic medicine: to embed state-of-the-art care in the NHS; bring health benefits to UK citizens; and consolidate the UK's position as the `go to' destination for international genomic research and investment.

    This role's main purpose is to ensure the smooth operation of the bioinformatics pipeline in accordance with ISO 15189 standards, supporting the formulation, implementation and delivery of the bioinformatics operating strategy.

    The post holder is accountable for the optimal day to day running of the results pipeline, updating senior and external stakeholders on the status of the pipeline, reporting to the quality team and being accountable for the facilitation of problem resolution and continuous improvements.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key Accountabilities:
    • Leading a team specialised in operating the bioinformatics pipeline and clinical interpretation to ensure smooth processing and return of results to the NHS
    • Monitoring delivery and conducting operational trouble shooting using bioinformatics tools and implementing varied and sustainable continuous improvements that drive successful KPI delivery
    • Constantly reviewing and seeking to improve operational performance and efficiency, meeting both current and future bioinformatics business requirements
    • Working to continuously improve operational processes and promoting a quality culture
    • Introducing and leading continuous improvement and change programmes, as required
    • Ensuring that the reporting of the bioinformatics pipeline status is up to date and dashboards are updated and provide actionable insights
    • Providing the risk management capability for the Bioinformatics operations team
    • Interfacing with operations teams within other functions across Genomics England to ensure the smooth running of the pipeline
    • Producing weekly reports on KPIs for the ISO 15189 standard
    • Prepare insightful forecasts based on current and target performance
    • Representing Bioinformatics operations at key quality and team reviews
    • Preparing, validating and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and where appropriate training others in effective operational processing
    • Ensuring service desk tickets are responded to by the team in a timely manner and trends, root causes and solutions identified and actioned
    • Maintaining service desk ticket backlog and planning and prioritising effectively
    • Working with third parties who deliver and process our data to ensure any issues relevant to operations are identified and resolved
    • Deputising for the Head of Production as required

    REQUIREMENTS

    Skills Required:
    • Essential to have knowledge of working within an ISO accredited lab (preferably ISO 15189 or ISO17025)
    • Experience running operations in a large company or laboratory, preferably within an IT environment
    • Solid skillset in Bioinformatics
    • Strong record of leadership of multiple stakeholder groups while under tight timelines
    • Solid expertise of using continuous improvement methods in an operational setting to achieve operational objectives
    • Proven expertise in using performance metrics to drive results
    • Proven project and people management skillset
    • Experience of trouble shooting bioinformatics pipeline (eg root cause analysis)
    • Exposure to Lean processing is desirable and Agile working
    • Applied risk management knowledge
    • Experience responding to service desk enquires and external customer enquires desirable.
    • Data management, operational and scientific problem-solving skills
    • Extensive report production and analytical and reporting skills
    • Must have demonstrated excellent ability to interface with customers and internal teams.
    • Be able to work cross-functionally through many teams to execute goals and set and meet milestones.
    • Strong organisational, time management and planning skills
    • Self-motivated, with excellent ability to work on own initiative
    • Excellent team-working skills with willingness and ability to engage with others at all levels of the organisation
    • Ability to analyse information and present it in a clear, concise way to clinical, scientific, and corporate audiences
    • Ability to work under pressure without compromising the quality of work
    • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
    • Desirable to have knowledge of JIRA and Confluence
