    BACKGROUND

    Due to successfully winning major international research projects, an award winning biotech based in Cambridge is expanding, has released a number of fantastic opportunities in their Bioinformatics team. Built on pioneering research from some of the brightest minds in the industry, the company is exploring the role and impact of the human microbiome in heath and disease. This research has huge potential to unlock new methods for diagnostics and treatments for a wide range of diseases, including infections, autoimmune disorders and cancer.

    This opportunity is suitable for a dynamic and talented Biostatistician (or a Bioinformatician with very strong statistical skills) who loves working in an innovative, creative environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key duties will be:
    • Develop methods for statistical association of large-scale metagenomics datasets with clinical metadata
    • Identifying, developing and implementing analytical, statistical and machine learning methods to improve and extend their informatics platform
    • Provide statistical input into study designs and analysis plans for complex datasets including clinical trials
    • Provide statistical support across the company

    REQUIREMENTS

    The ideal candidate will have:
    • A PhD or MSc degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics or a related discipline
    • Knowledge of machine learning methods
    • Fantastic communication skills
    • Experience working with patient metadata or heterogeneous datasets
    • Understanding of microbial genomics, metagenomics and/or metabolomics would be fantastic
    • Strong programming ability in Python, Perl, C++ or similar
    • Familiarity with phylogenetic/taxonomic classification of genomes and metagenomes
