Opportunity: Senior Bioinformatics Test Analyst @ Genomics England -- London, UK
Submitted by Eugene Mc Daid; posted on Monday, April 29, 2019

To build on the success of the 100,000 Genomes Project, the Government tasked NHS England with support from Genomics England to launch a new NHS Genomic Medicine Service comprising a National Genomic Test Directory where 300,000 tests have been re-profiled and whole genome sequencing will be available for direct healthcare. Through 7 Genomic Laboratory Hubs this offers equitable access to the 55 million people in England to the latest genomic medicine and research. This will lead to faster diagnosis and personalised medicine.

Genomics England has been asked to prepare a plan for up to 5 million genomic tests over the next 5 years.

The post holder is part of the bioinformatics team working on and with the software that is used in the clinical laboratory to process patient samples and analyse their genomic profiles, helping to find the right treatment options for cancer and rare disease patients. The role is to work with Bioinformatics development team and members of the bioinformatics group to ensure the quality of bioinformatics software used on production systems. The post holder will also be responsible for overall development/maintenance of the automation and manual test cases.

    Key Accountabilities:
    • Participate in requirements and design review meetings to create comprehensive, automated test strategies/plans for bioinformatics software leading to successful implementation and timely project completion.
    • Work with the Bioinformatics scientists, developers and product core teams to understand functional specifications, develop test plans and test cases to ensure the quality of results within our Genomics software products.
    • Execute tests, perform in-depth statistical analysis, and interpret results independently. Types of tests will include functional, system, integration, user acceptance and regression testing.
    • Organize and manage data sets supporting the tests, and work with product teams on engagements to obtain additional data sets to fill gaps.
    • Work with cross-functional teams, support integration and regression testing of Bioinformatics software.
    • Design, create, enhance, and maintain bioinformatics data and automated testing framework to ensure excellent testing coverage.
    • Collaborate across all levels of the Software Development team both internal and to third parties.
    • Using Agile working practices to deliver results, helping the team continually evolve and improve its ways of working
    • Actively look for ways of improving our genomics software quality, in-house analysis pipelines, testing processes, approaches and implementing continuous improvements.
