    Opportunity: FrontEnd Developer -- Bioinformatics @ Genomics England -- London, UK

    BACKGROUND

    To build on the success of the 100,000 Genomes Project, the Government tasked NHS England with support from Genomics England to launch a new NHS Genomic Medicine Service comprising a National Genomic Test Directory where 300,000 tests have been re-profiled and whole genome sequencing will be available for direct healthcare. Through 7 Genomic Laboratory Hubs this offers equitable access to the 55 million people in England to the latest genomic medicine and research. This will lead to faster diagnosis and personalised medicine.

    The post holder is an experienced front end developer responsible for creating web applications and utilising software engineering skills to develop tools for genomic interpretation.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key Accountabilities Include:
    • Develops services for:
      • Interpreting genomes
      • Tracking and distributing interpretation requests
      • Generating knowledge bases from the interpretation outcomes
    • Produces high quality code
    • Liaises with internal and external parties to determine platform requirements

    REQUIREMENTS

    Key Skills Include:
    • Proven track record of developing high quality applications/systems with web services
    • Solid experience of React, Redux and exposure to JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Good knowledge of Sass / Less / CSS
    • Experience with HTML5, And or similar framework experience
    • Proficiency in collaborative development tools such as GitHub/Gitlab, Confluence and JIRA
    • Testing experience using enzyme / sinon / unit and component testing
    • Experience of wire framing and architecting Single Page Applications is desirable.
    • InDesign / Sketch knowledge and Graphql is a plus.
    • Some awareness of User experience patterns is a bonus
    • A demonstrable ability to cope under pressure and deliver to deadlines
    • Ability to communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
    • Willingness to assume workload commensurate with this post
    • Flexible and co-operative approach to colleagues
    • Ability to work independently and to show initiative within a team
    • Ability to prioritise and balance competing demands
    • Solid experience of working in Agile environments and of Agile development methods and tools
