    Opportunity: Bioinformatician @ Genomics England -- London, UK

    Following the successful completion of one of the largest genomic projects the world has ever seen – the 100,000 Genomes Project – Genomics England are expanding on an ambitious new venture that seeks to sequence the whole genomes of 5 million patients within the next five years. This revolutionary government-funded initiative has produced a wealth of data that could provide crucial insights into rare diseases and cancers, revolutionising healthcare and unlocking a new generation of treatments and diagnostic options that were never before possible.

    Now, Genomics England are playing an incremental role in the development of the UK's first Genomics Medicine Service, enabling the public to have unprecedented access to the power of genomics through the NHS. They are currently seeking to expand their world-class Bioinformatics team based in central London. The ideal candidate would have a top-notch Bioinformatics post-graduate degree, strong coding skills and experience working with NGS data.


    Key responsibilities include:
    • Ensure the smooth operations of the pipelines and troubleshoot problems when they occur.
    • Liaise with the development teams to report any issues and design solutions.
    • Provide second line support to internal customers and the research community who are using Genomics England tools.


    Desired skills/experience include:
    • MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics or a related discipline
    • Ample experience running of NGS analysis pipelines for large numbers of samples
    • Proficiency in Linux and basic command line skills. Experience using collaborative development tools such as Github, Confluence and JIRA.
    • Familiar with the databases and resources available for variant interpretation
    • Confident using shell and python scripts
    • Comfortable using high performance computing clusters
    • Ability to work independently and to show initiative within a team
    • Fantastic communication skills and ability to work under pressure
    • Experience of working is an ISO accredited or clinical lab is an advantage.
