    Opportunity: Principal Investigator (m/f/d) in Computational Biology @ St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute -- Vienna, Austria

    BACKGROUND

    We are looking for a Principal Investigator (m/f/d) in Computational Biology to establish a competitive independent research group embedded in the multidisciplinary and collaborative environment of the CCRI, which provides many opportunities for interaction with other research groups and institutions. As a Principal Investigator at the CCRI, you strengthen our excellent research team, which focuses on the development and research of innovative approaches for the treatment of childhood cancer. This position offers a unique opportunity to actively contribute to a multidisciplinary competence center for pediatric oncology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Principal Investigator, you will
    • Lead a competitive independent research group
    • Develop your ambitious ideas and perform innovative medically-inspired research
    • Take direct responsibility for completion of your research project
    • Use state-of-the-art computational biology approaches to tackle current challenges in pediatric cancer research
    • Participate actively and further develop our processes of selecting excellent postdoctoral fellows and PhD candidates, teaching activities and supervising postdoctoral fellows and students
    • Participate in regular institute meetings and our weekly scientific Wednesday seminars
    • Cooperate closely with institutes in close proximity (e.g. the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine), jointly constituting the biomedical research hub of Vienna
    • Maintain a close cooperation between our research institute and the St. Anna Children's hospital to perform translational research

    REQUIREMENTS

    Your profile:
    • PhD-level (or equivalent) with postdoctoral research experience and a track record of scientific excellence documented by publication and funding track records
    • Scientific excellence of an independent research program in the area of computational biology with a potential for clinical translation
    • Enthusiastic about developing your ambitious ideas and perform innovative medically-inspired independent research that can ultimately be translated into better diagnostics and therapeutics
    • Proactive team player who enjoys working across disciplines and within an international team of excellent scientists
    • Excellent management skills, high social competence and organizational skills
