Opportunity: Principal Bioinformatician -- Cardiometabolic Disease @ A global computational biology and digital sciences team -- Germany
Submitted by Eugene McDaid; posted on Wednesday, September 09, 2020

This is a great opportunity for a talented and driven bioinformatician to join a global computational biology and digital sciences team looking to turn data into insights for the discovery and evaluation of new therapeutic concepts in Discovery Research.

As a Principal Scientist Computational Biology you identify novel putative targets by cutting edge in silico analyses, strengthen new therapeutic concepts and identify biomarkers in the area of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g. retinopathies, NASH, obesity), using leading edge computational methods to drive faster, improved decision making, ultimately developing impactful therapies for patients. You like the challenge of building a convincing line of reasoning to go from in-silico predictions to experimental validation. In addition, you are passionate for drug discovery, experienced in implementing disruptive ideas into an organization and take advantage of data-driven digital innovation.

    • Together with the therapeutic area, you will conceive and direct the implementation of data-driven solutions to support target identification, target-driven research and presentation of results to your stakeholders and the TA and GCBDS management board.
    • In your new role, you work with data from multiple domains, such as transcriptomics (RNAseq, scRNAseq) or genetics using established and innovative methods.
    • You contribute to projects during all phases - from experimental design to downstream analysis in interdisciplinary teams.
    • Furthermore, you establish and develop new analysis strategies in the field of omics data, network biology and machine learning aiming to push boundaries in drug discovery.

    • PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology or systems biology research or similar with strong quantitative focus and excellent programming skills. Alternatively master's degree with long-term professional experience
    • In-depth knowledge and broad spectrum in bioinformatics and computational biology with a focus on omics data
    • Deep knowledge in R/Bioconductor (preferred) or Python and solid background in statistics and experimental design
    • Previous projects in cardiometabolic indications are desirable
    • Highly motivated Team player with excellent organization and communication skills
    • Fluency in English writing and speaking

This is a highly challenging, strategic role offering a competitive remuneration package and some great benefits such as life insurance, pension, bonus scheme and relocation allowance.

Please do not hesitate to contact Harvey Uppal at huppal[at] or call (+44) 121 616 3407 to discuss this opportunity further.
