Opportunity: Research Assistant Professor Position in Metabolomics Bioinformatics @ University of North Carolina at Charlotte -- Charlotte, NC (US)

BACKGROUND
The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics, within the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, invites applications for a research track assistant professor faculty member with expertise in computational metabolomics or computational mass spectrometry. The successful candidate will work with the research team of Dr. Xiuxia Du. Primary responsibilities include pursuing research, seeking extramural funding, and generating knowledge in the forms of publications and intellectual property.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research on NIH grants in the fields of computational metabolomics and exposomics. Essential duties and responsibilities will include working with the Du-Lab team in designing, implementing, and testing novel computational algorithms, software tools, and web applications. In addition, the individual is also expected to participate in preparing manuscripts, scientific presentations, and grant proposals. This position currently has NIH funding for four years with a potential for an additional one year extension. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue external funding as a PI or co-investigator in order to develop an independent research program. Additional responsibilities will include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated prior experience in software development and mass spectrometry data analysis.
REQUIREMENTS
- An earned doctorate in mathematics, computer science, or related discipline
- Proficient in Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, or other programming languages
- Extensive experience in the development of web applications
- Having completed two or more years of postdoctoral training
- Recent publication record in the field of metabolomics informatics
- Two or more years of hands-on metabolomics algorithm development
