    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Biology at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) invites applications for a tenured faculty positions at the rank of Associate Professor starting immediately. We seek candidates for an Associate Professor with combined, demonstrated expertise in genomics, molecular biology, immunology, and infectious diseases. A Ph.D. in the life sciences or related field. At least four years of experience in a tenured Associate Professor of Biology position is required.

    The person selected for this position will have been a successful recipient of NIH funding, in addition to receiving funds from other federal agencies. Further, this position is designed to engage in projects provided by the U.S. Department of Defense, and will require appropriate clearance. A history of successful teaching of lower and upper-level courses in Biology is also required, including the development of new online-only courses.

    A main focus of this position is to strengthen Applied Bioinformatics in the department, and provide expertise and support in seeking significant federal funding to develop a Center of Excellence. An essential element of a successful candidate will be experience successfully mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

    This position will serve a key role in significantly augmenting the growth in research that the Department of Biology has demonstrated in recent years. The position is also expected to contribute to mentoring junior faculty in the department. This position will focus on strengthening the core research abilities and provide collaborative research expertise to the UNO and broader NU campuses. The successful candidates will maintain active, externally-funded research programs and contribute to core courses in the undergraduate biology curriculum and senior/graduate level courses in the candidates' area of specialization.

    The Department comprises 26 faculty members serving over 950 undergraduate majors and approximately 25 graduate students. Shared facilities include two next-generation sequencing instruments and access to high performance computing resources.
