Opportunity: Full-Time Faculty Lecturer @ University of Maryland, College Park -- College Park, MD (US)
Submitted by Lan Ma; posted on Saturday, December 12, 2020

    DESCRIPTION

Applications are invited for 2 full-time Lecturer positions starting in January 2021. Lecturers are sought to serve as primary instructors of undergraduate courses for the Biocomputational Engineering (BCE) degree program, a new program within the Fischell Department of Bioengineering. The Lecturer will also be responsible for advising undergraduate students and will be expected to contribute in departmental service. A Ph.D. in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or closely related field is preferred; candidates with an MS and four or more years of experience in the field will also be considered. A record of outstanding teaching is also preferred. This non-tenure-track position will come with a competitive salary, full benefits package, and opportunities for professional growth.

The Biocomputational Engineering Degree program is set to launch Fall 2021 at the Universities at Shady Grove campus, Rockville, MD. The BCE degree differs from the bioengineering program in that it offers a multidisciplinary curriculum that includes statistics, data analysis, data visualization, machine learning, and programming in addition to the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, and biology.

The BCE degree program admits transfer students that have completed an Associate's Degree/60 credits in Engineering or a closely related STEM field. Instruction for the remaining 60 credits required to earn a BS degree will take place within the newly-constructed Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Educational Facility (BSE) on the Shady Grove Campus.. The BSE is a six-level, 220,000 square foot LEED Platinum certified facility equipped with world-class research and educational facilities. The building features state-of-the-art teaching laboratories, active learning classrooms, and product design spaces for student research. More information can be found at: biocomp.umd.edu.

The Fischell Department of Engineering is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill 2 open positions with primary teaching responsibilities to include the following anticipated courses:
    • Python for Data Analysis
    • Object Oriented Programming in C++
    • Algorithms - Utilizing the Python programming language
    • Statistics, Data Analysis, and Data Visualization
    • Imaging and Image Processing

    HOW TO APPLY
