    Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's (LBNL) Climate & Ecosystems Division (https://eesa.lbl.gov/our-divisions/climate-ecosystem-sciences/) has an opening for a Research Associate (RA) to join the team.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    What You Will Do:
    • Assist PI, postdocs and PhD students with handling of environmental samples for chemical and microbiological analysis.
    • Use molecular biology methods such as DNA/RNA extraction and purification, microscopy, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and quantitative-PCR, sequencing.
    • Be in charge of day-to-day lab operations; including but not limited to well keeping of laboratory, sample and chemical inventory organization and sterilization.
    • Independently perform work assignments to create various types of sequencing libraries from (DNA, RNA) environmental samples.
    • Understand and interpret QC results and implement modifications as needed.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, and a minimum of 3+ years of lab experience in microbiology or genetics
    • Demonstrated experience with laboratory and molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid and protein purification, PCR, and sequencing
    • Experience with DNA extraction, quantification and amplification, sequencing with Illumina, Nanopore or PacBio platforms
    • Familiarity with reading and understanding different forms of published literature
    • Experience with Word and Excel, GSuite
    • Detailed-oriented, well-organized, reliable and has initiative

    TERMS & COMPENSATION

    • This is a full-time, one year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
    • This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
    • Salary will be determined based on range by collective bargaining agreement.
