    Opportunity: Cancer Clinical Genomics Postdoctoral Fellow, LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes, Dell Medical School @ The University of Texas at Austin -- Austin, TX (US)

    DESCRIPTION

    This position will carry out research in the area of cancer clinical grade sequencing, experientially train in genomics in medicine, within a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with world-class experts and state-of-the-art technologies.

    General Notes:
    Our cancer research program focuses on translational research models to define molecular alterations associated with the processes targeted by various cancer therapies and use these associations to inform o treatment choice in trial design. We use several public domain data sources for obtaining molecular data types and clinical outcomes data from various cancers and apply methods for combining them to extract relevant information. We also use information on cancer cell biology to develop strategies to define molecular susceptibilities that may be targeted by treatment. The Kowalski lab is part of the Developmental Therapeutics lab in the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes that is a multiple-PI lab with a high-degree of collaboration. We seek a postdoctoral fellow to carry out research in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment with world-class experts and state-of-the-art technologies.

    One year assignment which can be renewed on an annual basis up to a total of five years. Previous time in a postdoctoral fellow position (whether paid or unpaid) at the University or at any other university counts towards this time limitation (unless the area or discipline changes).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Carry out primary research investigating molecular mechanisms responsible for tumor responses to treatment and their context in cancer cell biology. These projects may utilize several types of available data sources, including public domain, computations methods, and basic cell and molecular biology contexts. A major focus is to develop novel computational methods to connect several molecular and treatment related clinical outcomes data in cancer, and use the results to design clinical trials of targeted therapies.
    • Publish manuscripts, write and edit grants, progress reports.
    • Participate in the design of a project. Lead a research effort in the direction set forth by the PI and the specific project.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required Qualifications: Doctorate degree in Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or relevant fields. Doctorate must be received within that last three years. Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.     Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cancer biostatistics, cancer bioinformatics, and next-generation sequencing analysis is a plus.
