Submitted by Will Woodbery; posted on Tuesday, September 28, 2021
BACKGROUND
The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), Military Nutrition Division (MND) is offering a postdoctoral fellowship at the Natick, Massachusetts, facility through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to better understand the impact of nutrition on military personnel.
Ongoing studies within the MND are identifying relationships between the gut microbiome, physiology and metabolism, and health and performance outcomes in military personnel. These research studies seek to use nutritional approaches targeting the gut microbiome and other biological systems to improve physical, cognitive and occupational performance. If you are selected for this fellowship, you will expand this line of research by participating in studies and using computational approaches to identify effective targeted nutritional strategies for improving performance of military personnel under physical, environmental and cognitive stress.
REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should have recently received, or expect to have received by December 31, 2021, a doctoral degree in bioinformatics, microbial ecology, or a closely related field, and have some background in nutrition science, exercise physiology or a closely related field. Alternatively, candidates should have recently received, or expect to have received by December 31, 2021, a doctoral degree in nutrition science, exercise physiology or a closely related field and have a strong background in bioinformatics, microbial ecology, or a closely related field.
