BACKGROUND
The Department of Bioinformatics and Genomics, within the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is seeking outstanding candidates in the area of bioinformatics, computational biology and/or data science for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Kannapolis, NC. The Bioinformatics and Genomics Department is a research-intensive unit with both a Ph.D. program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and a M.S. in Bioinformatics. Faculty in this Department support an undergraduate Bioinformatics Minor and Bioinformatics Concentrations within the BS and BA degrees in Computer Science. The Department has excellent BSL-2 and BSL-3 wet lab facilities, several high-performance computer clusters, and has dedicated space for postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff.REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for this position must hold a Ph.D. in the biological, computational or related sciences and have a research program aligned with the core mission of the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) (https://ncresearchcampus.net) to Empower Human Health through Nutrition. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in research via a strong publication record, aptitude to secure extramural funding, as well as a commitment to mentoring and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants with extensive prior experiences in applying modern data analytics methods to data acquired from human biospecimens are strongly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an independent externally funded research program. The research campus, located about 30 minutes north of the vibrant Charlotte metro area in the town of Kannapolis, is a unique public-private partnership that is home to researchers from eight North Carolina universities, including UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, Duke, and others, as well as several industry partners (visit ncresearchcampus.net for more information). Faculty at the research campus frequently collaborate with faculty from the other universities, as well as with faculty at the UNC Charlotte main campus and other faculty from around the globe.
