    Opportunity: Research Evaluation Manager @ Susan G. Komen -- Fully Remote (US)

    BACKGROUND

    Susan G. Komen will be hiring one candidate for this remote role. Candidate can be located anywhere within the U.S.

    The Research Evaluation Manager is a member of the Health Information & Evaluation team within Komen's Mission division. The Health Information & Evaluation team supports Komen's role as an evidence-based organization by transforming data into meaningful intelligence that will guide program strategy, convey Komen's impact and facilitate the use of data to fuel meaningful programming and improve breast cancer outcomes.

    Position Summary:
    The primary objective of the Research Evaluation Manager is to support Susan G. Komen in achieving our overall Vision and Mission by developing and implementing strategies to assess the outcomes and impact of Susan G. Komen's research portfolio and assessing alignment of research activities with Komen's mission strategy.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Evaluate the impact of Susan G. Komen's research programs and portfolio and assess alignment of research activities with Komen's mission strategy.
    • Conducts evaluation studies and portfolio analyses.
    • Analyzes both qualitative and quantitative data.
    • Designs, implements, and analyzes grantee, advocate, and stakeholder surveys.
    • Retrieves and analyzes data from research grant database(s).
    • Works with Evaluation team to determine the bodies of knowledge to which Komen-funded research has contributed, and the impact of that contribution.
    • Identifies and tracks measurable outcomes from Komen-funded research programs and projects.
    • Identifies gaps and weaknesses in current evaluation processes/procedures utilizing methods appropriate for each situation.
    • Contributes to the development of evaluation processes for research-related projects using evidence-based practices and theories.
    • Partners with Mission teams, as appropriate, to develop evaluation instruments, gather and analyze data, and measure and track impact.
    • Responsible for conducting and completing multiple projects to assess impact of Komen-funded research. This includes incorporating strong project management skills to ensure timelines are being adhered to and projects are prioritized accordingly across the multiple projects.
    • Categorizes Komen's grants and other mission-related programs using established classification systems, as well as maintain the ongoing coding.
    • Works with other Evaluation team members to establish definitions for internal coding systems and inclusion/exclusion criteria and validate code assignments.
    • Reviews and codes Komen research grants to facilitate portfolio evaluation. Creates and manages project databases, as needed.
    • Monitors the processes required for on-going maintenance of the above structured database(s).
    • Develops and implements strategies to communicate the outcomes and impact of Susan G. Komen's research portfolio for multiple audiences.
    • Coordinates with the Evaluation Team to prepare tables, charts, and figures for internal and external reports, as required.
    • Researches and prepares responses to requests for information on Komen Research Program processes, grant mechanisms, and funded research projects; serves as a back-up for the Program Evaluation Analyst.
    • Develops, authors and edits various communication pieces (e.g. Komen research articles, blogs, reports) that effectively convey to general audiences the outcomes and impact of Komen-funded research, as required.
    • Works with other Mission staff to identify processes and activities to enhance internal and external communication about Komen-funded mission activities.
    • Works collaboratively across Komen departments to help secure funding mission programs and ensure donor stewardship.
    • Represents Komen and the mission team in a professional manner internally and externally to prospective and current donors and other key stakeholders in the breast cancer research and advocacy community, as needed.
    • Contributes to the development of donor proposals, pitch documents, presentations, and other materials to assist in revenue-generating activities seeking support for mission programs.
    • Serves as a Komen representative on internal committees and working groups.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Experience working in and/or conducting biomedical research (or related field), and knowledge of the research grant award process.
    • Experience in mixed methods evaluation, data collection techniques, and data analysis
    • At least 2 years' experience conducting evaluation to measure intended outcomes and answer evaluation objectives, including developing appropriate methodologies and data collection tools, such as assessments and surveys.
    • Proficiency in Excel, including use of pivot tables and formulas.
    • Demonstrated experience in client communication including but not limited to written, oral and electronic reports, with ability to translate complex scientific concepts into language suitable for a lay audience.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members, identify problems and follow through until resolution.
    • Ability to work independently and autonomously but also function well in a collaborative team setting, working across functions and different types of people.
    • Excellent attention to detail, and organizational skills.
    Education:
    • Doctoral Degree (Biomedical science or related field)

    PREFERENCES

    In addition to the qualifications above the successful candidate should have: (Describe any specific licenses, certifications, languages, skills, etc. and whether they are required or preferred)
    • Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau a plus.
    • Experience with data management systems such as MS Access or SQL.
    • Familiarity with the Common Scientific Outline (CSO) coding schema a plus.
    • Position requires intermediate level of computer/technical skills. Programs utilized are Microsoft Office, databases (internal and external) and virtual networking programs Teams, RingCentral).
    • Familiarity with data analysis (health disparities) as it relates to cancer.
