    BACKGROUND

    Description:
    The Mass Spectrometry Core facility, a member of the ASU Biosciences Core based in the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar that will contribute to research in the field of quantitative proteomics and metabolomics. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in bioinformatic analysis of large-scale proteomics and metabolomics datasets. The full-time, non-tenure- track, benefits-eligible, fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) position is for one year with subsequent renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the university, and availability of resources.

    The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research with Dr. Timothy Karr, Assistant Director of Operations and Associate Research Professor, and assist with the daily operations of the facility under the direction of Dr. Megan Maurer as enumerated below.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Essential Duties:
    • Analyze proteomic and metabolomic datasets Assist in development of bioinformatic workflows
    • Conduct literature reviews, data analyses, and report/manuscript preparation Identify, coordinate, and lead the writing of manuscripts
    • Contribute to identifying relevant research funding opportunities
    • Disseminate research outcomes in peer-reviewed publications and at professional conferences
    • Coordinate among team members and lead the team's efforts for accomplishing and delivering milestones for projects
    • Participate in collaborations with the other faculty and partners

    REQUIREMENTS

    Required Qualifications:
    • A recent (within the past 4 years) Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry, genomics, bioinformatics or a related field by the time of appointment
    Desired Qualifications:
    • Familiarity writing or compiling software and running analyses on large proteomic, metabolomic, and RNA-seq databases
    • Knowledge and hands-on experience with common tools in proteomics and mass spectrometry such as sample preparation and operational details of high resolution Orbitrap mass spectrometers
    • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux environments, common programming languages, R Demonstrated record of scientific publications
    • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills (in English)
    Working Environment:
    The position will be primarily based within the Mass Spectrometry Core facility located in the Biodesign Institute facility in Tempe, Arizona, and will have flexibility in working arrangements to accommodate remote computer-based work as determined by the department. Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary Range: $53,760 - $60,000 per year; DOE
