RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Manager, Data Science is a member of the Data Science team within Komen's Mission division. The Data Science team is part of the Scientific Strategy and Programs team, which works at the intersection of science and patient advocacy to translate scientific strategy and patient insights into programs that will accelerate research discoveries to save lives. Specifically, the Data Science team facilitates the use of a variety of data to fuel scientific discoveries and improve breast cancer outcomes.
The Manager, Data Science leads a team responsible for the design and implementation of Komen's breast cancer research registry and provides expertise and oversight to this project which is a key element of Komen's Big Data For Breast Cancer (BD4BC) Initiative. The BD4BC Initiative is designed to (1) empower the public with information and tools to make the sharing of health care data understandable and easy to do, (2) address challenges of incorporating big data applications into breast cancer research and clinical care and (3) use big data to fuel scientific discoveries and accelerate the delivery of equitable, patient-focused care. A primary goal is to increase the participation of diverse populations in research studies associated with this Initiative.
What You Will Bring to the Table:- Work closely with Senior Director, Data Science to develop strategies for Komen's Big Data For Breast Cancer (BD4BC) Initiative, especially for Komen-led big data research projects aimed at engaging diverse groups of people in breast cancer research.
- Work closely with Senior Director, Data Science to oversee the implementation and day-to-day management of Komen's breast cancer research registry to engage diverse groups of people in research and create a robust dataset to fuel breast cancer research and discovery.
- Oversee execution of strategies and related tactics that will facilitate the participation of a diverse population of breast cancer survivors, people living with metastatic breast cancer and the general public in research studies associated with Komen's BD4BC programs
- Oversee execution of strategies and related tactics to support the use of Komen's breast cancer research registry by a variety of researchers across various disciplines, including breast cancer researchers, oncologists, data scientists and patient advocates, to address significant challenges in breast cancer research and care.
- Lead the development of activities and communications to increase visibility of Komen's BD4BC programs, particularly to the research community. Participate in internal and external events as needed to support these activities.
- Contribute to the development of documentation required to support the day-to-day activities of and participation in BD4BC programs. Ensure compliance, reviewing and resolving issues and escalating significant issues to Sr. Director as needed. Contribute to the development of milestones, metrics and measurable outcomes for BD4BC programs. Prepare reports as needed, to ensure internal and external stakeholders are apprised of progress and impact.
- Oversee relationships with and activities of BD4BC advisors, committees, working groups and focus groups in support of BD4BC programs as needed.
- Help build strategic relationships and cultivate collaborative activities with industry, other non-profit organizations, coalitions, and partners to enhance awareness, support of and participation in Komen's BD4BC Initiative and associated research projects.
- Keep current and fully knowledgeable of industry/other organizations' activities relevant to big data for breast cancer, and community perspectives on emerging issues. Identify emerging issues/trends and potential opportunities for collaboration, sponsorship, position statements and/or policy development.
- Leverage relationships and expertise to support fundraising and enhance marketing and communications efforts for the BD4BC Initiative. Represent Komen externally as needed.
- Manage the performance of team members, including direct reports, against key performance indicators and metrics and provides coaching/mentoring to ensure the highest levels of individual and team performance. Facilitate working in a matrixed environment across the organization.
- Apply strong program management and administrative skills to develop project plans, ensure timelines are being adhered to; prioritize projects; develop project budgets and manage program expenses; ensure complete and accurate records; and compliance. Work collaboratively with other teams to define and deliver on specific programmatic needs including program monitoring and evaluation, coordinating ongoing communications internally and externally and representing the program to potential donors.

May offer recommendations for hiring, pay changes and termination, but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.

- 5-7 years of working experience.
- Demonstrated experience 3+ years in non-profit program management, preferably for a health or disease-focused organization, with experience planning and implementing targeted community engagement initiatives, supporting clinical trials recruitment, and/or other research/scientific projects management.
- At least 2 years, preferably 5, demonstrated supervisory experience, especially in supervising remote staff.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications (writing and speaking) skills. Comfortable working with a range of stakeholders; ability to build trust and relationships with partners. Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and straightforward manner, particularly for general audiences.
- Self-starter willing and able to take responsibility and ownership for producing timely and high-quality work with limited supervision. Ability to deconstruct complex problems and develop actionable plans.
- A team-oriented attitude, strong cross-functional collaboration skills and proven ability to work in a matrixed, global organization. Strong supervisory skills, especially in supervising remote staff.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; detail oriented. Proven ability to manage a large, complex workflow with multiple deadlines, data points, and priorities.
- High degree of professionalism, maturity, executive presence, business understanding, cultural awareness, and sensitivity to relationships, security, and confidentiality.
Preferred experience includes:- Knowledge of breast cancer, with an understanding of health disparities.
- Experience working with and/or established connections with diverse communities, particularly those underrepresented in research, including implementing and managing targeted community engagement initiatives.
- Experience in data management, clinical research or similar experience, particularly experience managing research studies or clinical trials that involve clinical data, patient reported outcomes and/or biosample collection.
- Experience managing a patient registry, particularly in a non-profit setting.
- Intermediate level of computer/technical skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite required. Proficiency with collaboration tools such as Asana preferred.
- Proficiency in another language, particularly Spanish, a plus.

COMPENSATION:
79K yearly with some flexibility depending on experience.
