    Opportunity: Principal Investigator (m/f/d) in Computational Biology @ St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute -- Vienna, Austria

    BACKGROUND

    We are looking for a Principal Investigator (m/f/d) in Computational Biology to establish a competitive independent research group embedded in the multidisciplinary and collaborative environment of the CCRI, which provides many opportunities for interaction with other research groups and institutions. As a Principal Investigator at the CCRI, you will strengthen our excellent research team, which focuses on the development and research of innovative approaches for the treatment of childhood cancer. This position offers a unique opportunity to actively contribute to a multidisciplinary competence center for pediatric oncology.

    We are particularly interested from applicants seeking to develop a research direction extending current competences at the institute. Potential topics of interest include computational approaches to bioimaging analysis, proteomics / metabolomics, or precision medicine – with a focus to their application to childhood cancer research.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Principal Investigator, you will:
    • Establish and lead an internationally competitive, independent research group
    • Develop your ambitious ideas and perform innovative medically-inspired research
    • Take direct responsibility for completion of your research projects
    • Use state-of-the-art computational biology approaches to tackle current challenges in pediatric cancer research
    • Participate in regular institute meetings and our weekly scientific seminars
    • Further develop our processes of selecting, teaching, and supervising postdoctoral fellows and students
    • Cooperate closely with institutes in close proximity (e.g. the CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine and Medical University of Vienna), jointly constituting the biomedical research hub of Vienna
    • Maintain a close cooperation with St. Anna Children's Hospital to perform translational research

    REQUIREMENTS

    Your profile:
    • PhD (or equivalent) with profound/notable postdoctoral research experience and a track record of scientific excellence documented by publication and funding track records
    • Proposal of an independent research program in the area of computational biology in childhood cancer with a long-term potential for clinical translation
    • Proactive team player who enjoys working across disciplines and within an international team of excellent scientists
    • Strong management and leadership skills, high social competence and organizational skills
