Submitted by Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry; posted on Thursday, April 07, 2022
BACKGROUND
The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried (near Munich, Germany) is one of the leading international research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, and biomedical research. With about 30 scientific departments and research groups and about 750 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society.
In the department "Totipotency" (Dr. Kikue Tachibana), a position is available for a
Bioinformatician (m/f/div)
RESPONSIBILITIES
The laboratory is looking for a talented bioinformatician to join the team. The primary research interests of the department are the chromatin reprogramming and gene regulatory mechanisms that underlie the establishment of totipotency during mammalian development.
The successful applicant will contribute to the understanding of such mechanisms by analyzing transcriptomic, chromatin conformation capture (Hi-C), epigenetic and proteomic data obtained from ultra-low input or single-cell samples. He/she will work closely together with experimental scientists and the NGS core facility hosted within the Department as well as with external collaborators. The candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to research projects from experimental design, through data analysis (including methods development) to interpretation of the data.
REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for a candidate with a profound understanding of deep-sequencing technology and experience with analysis of large-scale data. We are looking for creative and motivated team player who enjoys working on interdisciplinary research projects in an international environment.
Other requirements are:
- MSc or PhD degree in bioinformatics or equivalent experience in a related field
- Expertise in Hi-C, epigenetic or transcriptomic data analysis is essential
- Previous experience in single-cell genomic data analysis is advantageous
- Expertise in programming and statistical analysis, ideally in Python, R and/or other high-level programming language, is essential
- Proficiency with high performance clusters and Linux OS with in-depth IT-skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Fluency in English
TERMS
Our Offer:
The MPI of Biochemistry is a vibrant interdisciplinary research institute that offers a stimulating environment and international networking possibilities. Successful candidates will also benefit from opportunities for additional training and attendance of international conferences.
The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension or an open-ended contract.
