    Opportunity: Postdoc in bioinformatics tool development @ University of Nebraska -- Lincoln (US)

    BACKGROUND

    A Postdoctoral position is available in the Bioinformatics lab https://bcb.unl.edu of University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) to work on bioinformatics tool development. The lab is affiliated with the Nebraska Food for Health Center (NFHC). We are currently funded by NIH grants to develop bioinformatics tools (standalone software packages and online databases/servers) for genomic data mining in microbiome. We have developed and maintain several popular web servers, e.g., https://bcb.unl.edu/dbCAN2/ that are widely used by microbiome and genomics communities.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The postdoc researcher will work independently and collaboratively on the NIH funded projects and will have the opportunities to participate in other projects depending on his/her interests. The lab also encourages members to explore/develop their own research projects within the broad Bioinformatics research domain.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should have a PhD or will have completed a PhD before the position starts in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline. The applicants are expected to have had published first-authored research papers in reputable journals and have strong programming skills in Python/Perl and R and UNIX. The candidate should have extensive experience in bioinformatics tool development.

    PREFERENCES

    Experience in machine learning and microbiome is highly desired.

    TERMS

    The initial appointment is for one year, with renewal based on performance.

    Funding is available for three years.
