Opportunity: Senior Automation Support Scientist, Next Generation Sequencing @ Roche -- Greater Boston/Cambridge, MA (US)

BACKGROUND
The Sequencing & Life Sciences Support and Solutions group at Roche invites applications for our Senior Automation Support Scientist – Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) position. In this position, you will serve as the liaison between automation development and field implementation for automated methods on third party automated liquid handling platforms and drive customer satisfaction to increase sales revenue.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with the Sales team to provide pre- and post-sales support for customers who are evaluating or are implementing automated solutions for Roche's Sequencing product portfolio, specifically the KAPA library preparation and AVENIO product solutions
- Provide technical feedback and support to the automation development team on automated method modifications for improvements and development activities
- Train and support the Sample Prep Field Application Specialists on standard automation method installation
- Support custom modifications to customer's automated workflows in the field
- Coordinate with customers and automation liquid handling providers on a variety of projects, including early access to new methods; method qualification and optimization; and generation of marketing collateral related to Roche's automated solutions
- Apply broad awareness of current NGS Automation liquid handling market to develop methods for Roche NGS workflows on liquid handling platforms
- Design and execute process verification or optimization studies, including data generation, analysis, and reporting to key stakeholders
- Drive automated liquid handling vendor relationships to build and drive automated method availability and support
- Design user guides, training documentation, and marketing collateral related to automated NGS solutions
- Manage in-house automated liquid handling systems and facilities
- Experience operating and programming across multiple automated liquid handling systems, including Beckman Coulter (Biomek FXp, i5, i7), Perkin Elmer (Sciclone), Agilent (Bravo), Tecan (EVO, Fluent), Eppendorf (epMotion), and/or Hamilton (Star)
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
- 5 - 7 years of professional experience
PREFERENCES
Preferred Qualifications:
- Currently reside within or willing to relocate to the Wilmington, Massachusetts area
- Able and willing to travel 25% or more, which may include overnight travel
- Advanced degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related discipline with 3 years of relevant experience
- Experience operating and programming automated liquid handling platforms and nanoliter liquid handling platforms
- Experience with multiple computer languages preferred.
- Experience translating manual workflows into high throughput automated methods
- Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of Next Generation Sequencing sample preparation workflows and applications, including practical experience of genomics protocols and QC processes
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems.
- Ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects and adapt to rapidly changing requirements, priorities, and schedules to meet project timelines
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills
- Successful experience providing customer support and interaction in customer-facing role
- Previous experience mentoring and/or training
TERMS
This is a full-time, individual contributor position based in Wilmington, Massachusetts and requires 25% or more overnight travel. Company car is not provided.

COMPENSATION
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Massachusetts is 119-244K. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
