BACKGROUND
The Bioinformatics Core at the University of Florida Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research (ICBR) is looking for a talented and motivated postdoc to work on cutting-edge NGS data analysis.
ICBR is the premier campus biotechnology shared resource center with the mission of empowering scientific discovery and innovation throughout the University of Florida research community by providing access to world-class biotechnology expertise and instrumentation. The ICBR BI core provides analysis, consulting, and training services in genomic research to the UF community and beyond, with a specific focus on applications of high-throughput sequencing technologies. BI scientists work in close collaboration with other ICBR cores including Gene Expression, Next-Gen Sequencing, Cytometry, and Proteomics, and have access to world-class computational infrastructure in the form of HiPerGator, the UF cluster supercomputer.WHAT WE OFFER
A collaborative and highly stimulating research environment where the candidate will be exposed to a large number of projects in different domains, and to datasets generated by the leading NGS platforms (ICBR operates Illumina, PacBio, ONT Nanopore and 10X Genomics instruments). This position will be a perfect opportunity to acquire a wealth of practical, real-world experience in the analysis of NGS data for applications ranging from basic science to translational medicine. Examples of NGS analysis types include RNA-Seq, single-cell RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq and ATAC-Seq, spatial transcriptomics, genome assembly and annotation, variant calling, functional analysis, and metagenomics. Under the supervision and guidance of BI staff, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing BI projects while developing the skills and expertise necessary for an independent career in bioinformatics.RESPONSIBILITIES
Development of software to support analytical activities, including scripting, visualization, reporting, and data management.REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of Python, R, and Bash scripting, with proficiency in at least one.PREFERENCES
Experience with NGS data analysis, experience with scientific data visualization.HOW TO APPLY
