Faculty Position in The Department of Mathematical Sciences

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track/tenured ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE, or FULL PROFESSOR to serve as Director of the Bioinformatics Program. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience, research start-up funds are available. The Bioinformatics Program leads to a Professional Master's of Science Degree with a focus on computational molecular biology and computational genomic aspects of bioinformatics, providing professionals for the life science industry who can support the entire research and development process: to access, manage, analyze, simulate, and interpret biological information. It is a non-thesis degree administered through the College of Science, developed with the support of The Sloan Foundation, enrolling the first cohort of students the Fall semester of 2001. Candidates with active research programs who are interested in working on cross-disciplinary problems involving Statistics in the Biological Sciences, Computer Science or Chemistry, and with a strong commitment to teaching are sought. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field with theoretical or applied research experience in statistical modeling of biochemical systems. Candidates are sought who complement the existing team of interdisciplinary researchers needed to support and to lead further development of the Bioinformatics Program. The administrative duties of the director include arranging summer internships for students; individuals with extensive industry contacts are encouraged to apply.
