Opportunity: Experienced Data Analyst and People Manager to lead the data science transformation at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research @ University of Copenhagen -- Copenhagen, Denmark
Submitted by Signatur AS; posted on Monday, October 02, 2023

Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR)
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
    University of Copenhagen

    DESCRIPTION

We are looking for someone highly motivated to establish and lead the new Data Analytics Platform at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR), University of Copenhagen, starting on January 1, 2024, or after agreement.

    About Us:

CBMR was established in 2010 through a generous, unrestricted grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. The Center has approximately 260 employees working in a vibrant international research environment with a strong focus on interdisciplinary collaboration.

Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to understand the mechanisms involved in cardiometabolic health and disease and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies.

In 2023, the Center obtained new strategic funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation of up to DKK 1 billion, including substantial funding to establish a new Data Analytics Platform. The Platform will facilitate full data integration, sharing and analysis across the Center, adding up to 21 research groups and five supporting Platforms.

    About the Position:

The Data Analytics Platform Lead will play a critical role in establishing and leading the Platform, which will function as the focal point for all data and analytics of the Center and its external collaborators.

As a representative of data science at CBMR, the Data Analytics Platform Lead will be directly responsible for orchestrating the strategic use of data and implementation of data science disciplines, ultimately enabling data-driven decision-making while keeping the Center's vision and values in mind.

The Data Analytics Platform Lead is responsible for orchestrating the process and developing the Platform at large, elevating CBMR's ability to utilize data to its fullest, facilitating data sharing between our research groups and external collaborators, and enabling data science analyses. The Data Analytics Platform Lead will also spearhead strategic project planning and transparency to ensure our metadata meets the FAIR principles and our human data is compliant with GDPR regulations.

The Data Analytics Platform Lead will collaborate with stakeholders across the entire Center and manage a cross-functional team of Staff Scientists, including leading project specialists, Bioinformaticians, Statisticians, and Data Managers from our other Platforms with highly specialized skillsets. They will make additional hires to meet the Platform's goals and stakeholder demands.

    The Ideal Candidate:

To establish a solid date management team with diverse capabilities that complement each other, we aim to onboard a candidate with experience managing and developing large data science teams who can work with specialized and diverse tasks.

The ideal candidate has a tireless drive, naturally spearheading change in large organizations, and has a strong understanding of the inner workings of academia and health science, ideally through experience from a similar set-up in another large and excellent research institution.

    REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

    We Expect You to Have:
    • A master's degree and preferably a PhD in bioinformatics, informatics, data science, or human health-related biology.
    • Strong leadership skills, either as a project or people manager, with a minimum of 5 years work experience.
    • Deep insights into data science disciplines, the scientific process (e.g., working within research), health science, and large-scale IT projects (e.g., data warehouse, UNIX systems, cloud computing).
    • Expertise with database management systems that facilitate the entire data lifecycle, including extensive data collection from diverse research disciplines, storage, retrieval, and visualization.
    • A proven track record of connecting the dots across several stakeholders where expectations are high, and success requires exceptional teamwork and a strong drive.
    • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and business-developing skills, with an ability to nurture internal and external partnerships across different research centres and collaborators.
    We Value that You:
    • Are a collaborative, team-oriented individual with strong interpersonal, facilitative, and negotiation skills able to mediate and bring together collaborators.
    • Have the ability to quickly establish credibility and develop effective relationships as required to navigate and lead within a research organization.
    • Are a motivated leader with a bias for action and a sense of urgency, balanced by maturity and diplomatic skills as required to support and advance the Center strategy.
    Place of Employment:

The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Maersk Tower, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic, diverse, and highly international research environment.

    Terms of Salary and Employment:

The appointment as Data Analytics Platform Lead is positioned as Senior Consultant ('Chefkonsulent med personaleansvar') and is a full-time and permanent position. The start date is January 1, 2024, or after agreement. Working hours will be 37 hours per week on average. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with a possibility to negotiate supplements based on qualifications and experience.
