University of Kansas: Bioinformatics Faculty

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) of the University of Kansas (KU) seeks two outstanding individuals to fill tenure track faculty positions in the disciplines of computer science or computer engineering with a focus on bioinformatics theory/sciences. The successful faculty candidate is expected to contribute to the development of academic and research programs in computing with an application focus in bioinformatics while participating in research collaborations. KU has a major commitment to support life sciences research, including bioinformatics, and there are outstanding opportunities for collaboration with others on the Lawrence campus, KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS, using expanded capabilities for proteomics research, which soon will include state-of-art mass spectrometry instrumentation (MALDI-TOF/TOF, MALDI QqTOF, and linear ion trap), and automated equipment for separation, proteolytic digestion, and sample archiving.

Of particular interest is expertise in distributed databases, information modeling, statistical pattern analysis, machine learning, data mining, and algorithm optimization; all with applications to bioinformatics. Candidates are sought for all ranks, ranging from Assistant Professor to Distinguished Professor. Candidates for Distinguished Professor must meet university-wide criteria specific to such an appointment. The successful candidates should have an earned doctorate or equivalent in computer engineering, computer science, or related fields. Demonstrated research and academic leadership is required for senior ranks.

EECS is the largest department in the KU School of Engineering, with 28 faculty and a research volume of over $6 million. EECS offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science, and has approximately 600 undergraduate and 250 graduate students.
