    About Bioinformatics Organization, Inc.:
The Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. (a.k.a. Bioinformatics.Org) was founded in 1998 to create a collaborative environment for bioinformatic practitioners and neophytes throughout the world. The Organization provides these individuals, as well as the public at large, free and open access to the methods and materials used in bioinformatics research, development (i.e., computer programming), and education. And we provide a permanent location for the generation of such, all without regard for nationality, education or affiliation. By doing this, the Organization helps to lower the barrier to entering and participating in bioinformatics, as access to commercial resources can be prohibitively expensive for those working individually, in small groups, at poorly-funded institutions or in developing nations. Currently, there are more than 6,000 members and 100 hosted projects registered at the website (http://Bioinformatics.Org), making the Bioinformatics Organization, Inc. one of the largest associations in the field.
